1. I do concur and hope Rich decrees no freeze with the update.
2. "Win Now!" is a fun theme ... it is also not possible for every team to win now. If a GM makes a conscious and reasonable decision that the talent base he has now is not going to win now and he trades a marketable player for some players with real identified potential - I got no problem with it all. It is within this league's rules to do so.
I also would not buy the argument that a good team receiving a star player this early in the season throws off the competitive balance in any of our divisions at this point in time. Every other "good" team has plenty of time and plenty of opportunities within the remainder of this season to get themselves another "star" player or two if they so desire and are willing to work at making a trade or trades happen.
Looking at the recent Padres/Brewers trade all I can say is "Quit pregnant dogin' ..." It was a good trade for both teams - even if the teams had mutually exclusive (time-wise) agendas.
