Pirates release P Horacio Ramirez, P Hong-Chih Kuo and 2006 draft choices Chris Errecart, Kyle Orr, and Tyler Reves.
Pirates also move 2006 draft choices pitchers Yuslan Herrerra and Serguey Linares to their 40 man roster.

I thought teams only have 24 hrs to place a claim. If that is true then the Mets and Yankees claims are invalid. Is this correct?

This is correct. Until I can make sure that the roster move is valid the player isn't on waivers.
