oh good one, what you did last year is the be all end all of trades. clearly you made a horrific trade and are in denial. perhaps if i was actually trying to win last year i would have smoked your sorry ass. considering from the day i drafted my team, which has more talent in my top 3 players than your whole roster does, i was aiming to win in 2007, which is more than likely what im going to do.
so shut your pole smokin' hole and admit that you made a nuts trade

additionally if youre going to act like your team is amazing and you're the best GM in the league cuz you "went far in the playoffs last year" i'd suggest getting a team that has more than two good players... Cano (whos not half as good as the guy you traded for him) and Street. everybody else on your team is garbage that you can find on the FA heap come May.

METS, Don't ever trade Reyes...everytime he changes teams it sparks a huge debate. Thanks, BRAVES
P.S. It sucks that you brought him back to compete against the BRAVES since I traded him to the A's so he wouldn't have to play against me. Thanks!!!

Let's all wait and see if Reyes can have another good season before we enshrine him in the HOF.
Everything in sports is about the latest in the greatest, but Reyes was someone who two or three years ago was having his position changed because of Kaz Matsui, and was on the verge of being labeled a bust. He came in last season and was lights out, but maybe we should see if that was a career season, or something that he can build a fantastic career on. I would also consider Reyes to be a greater injury risk because of his small stature and with the way he throws himself around the diamond. He's got freak injury written all over him.
Cano, on the other hand has been underestimated at just about every stop he's ever made. He's now had two outstanding seasons at 2B for the Yankees, and instead of slumping in his sophomore season, he improved across the board. He's probably a tick or two below Reyes as far as talent and performance is concerned, but he's done it for one more season, which is huge in my book.
As for as Gordon not having much left in the tank, he actually got better last season as a closer, improving his K rate and reducing his BB rate. He's got at least another season or two left in the tank at his current level of production, which, as a Twins fan, is way better than anything that Jesse Crain will ever put up.
Crain finally got something figured out last season, and his K/9 started to approach 7.0 again, but each season in the bigs, his H/9 has increased, and that's a trend I'm more than a little concerned about. As far as middle relievers are concerned, he's definitely talented, but his value would be pretty easy to replace on the open market. He's above the level of a replacement player, but he also plays probably the least valuable position in sim.
Aurilia is a great bench player to have on a team. He's a tad bit more valuable to have in the Winter League, because we get to use actual production as opposed to projected production, and I'm expecting to see his numbers downgraded a bit because of that and his age, but he's a solid player to have, and guys like him are constantly overlooked in sim.
Overall, I think this trade was fairly even. I think people are willing to give Reyes more credit than he's due because of the excitement factor and because his potential is seemingly endless. But he still only has one year of solid production under his belt. I don't know if I would've made the trade, but Oakland and New York both have different needs as team, and they both understand their baseball, so kudos to them on getting a deal done.
As far as having a trade review committee, I think that's out of the question. Unless there is obvious evidence that collusion is involved in a trade, all trades should be a go. Most of us in this league are in it because we know baseball and follow it so closely, so I automatically have to respect a GM's ability to manage his own resources. Just because we disagree with a trade doesn't make it a terrible trade.

ok, so your first paragraph talks about waiting to enshrine reyes into the HOF, then you go and slobber all over cano's knob in the next one. nice.

And don't worry Braves, you'll have to see Reyes and Wright on the Mets for a long time...both in real life and IYFBL.

I completely agree with Padres. Reyes is really overrated in this moment. Before last year he was pretty below average, so until he proves he can do what he did last year consistently(Which I really doubt cause I don't see him hitting more than 10 HR again), I wouldn't label him as the can't miss player everyone claims he is. He has some great skills and some great potential, but you have to show that every year to prove that you're not an overrated one year wonder. Reyes has the talent to put up similar numbers again, but I won't value him as high as some do until I see that consistently.

We don't need to clog things up with a TRC. There are rules in place for trades to be rejected. I don't see nearly enough objection yet to consider this deal in jeopardy.

Finally a rebuttal that makes sense (regardless of which way he viewed the trade). Instead of just all out bashing the trade, he logistically looked at it from both teams perspectives and what their team needed. If you were so high on Reyes, why didnt you offer me something. Texas was after me for weeks to get a deal done. Made a few good offers but it just didnt "fit" my team. I may not be the smartest GM out there, if I was I wouldnt be simming with you guys thats for sure. What I do know is baseball, and how computer sims work and that combination with time can get me far enough to be happy with a team that doesnt have "All Stars" written all over them. I know this is gonna probably open a hole new bag of worms but, but the New England Patriots that won 3 of 4 Super Bowls never had the Pro Bowlers that so many teams think it requires to win championships, they played as a team. I dont need one guy that does it all to win a championship. What i do need is a bunch of guys that together, win games.

What's funny is that I have yet to see one piece of objective analysis by any of the dissenters to this trade. It's been a bunch of Reyes is awesome/this trade sucks...

He didnt do anything in the league before then? do i have to Remind you retards that he is TWENTY THREE years old. he took a dramatic step forward from 05-06 by having his OBP jump .54 points. despite the offensive numberrs not being there across the board in 05, he's stolen sixty bags in back to back seasons as a 22-23 year old. switch hitting. short stop. how is that not prime talent? And can't miss? what kind of rock do you live under?

And we both have been here since the first day.

to sum it up on Cano/Reyes.......Reyes is younger, at a more prime position, has more power, far more speed and is a catalyst. He's somebody to build an offense around. Cano? he's nice to have in the #2 hole but you don't build a team around him.
Then Flash Gordon is about to retire, die or have his arm fall off. one of the three. Aurilia is acomplete non factor. aided by playing in a hitters park last year, and his 3 year split sucks. he won't project anywhere near his actual numbers last year. he's been on a steady decline in his career and look for that to continue when he gets back to SF.
and dealing a young pitcher who could close on pretty much any team in the league with a career era under 3 is always nice too.
